Much of Kris Wiltse’s work is informed by the versatile forms and shapes of the natural environment in the Northwest. Working in wood and linoleum block printing she has a keen eye for finding the graphic essence of her subject. Precise multi-block printing techniques and Kris’ feeling for color further ensure the beauty of her work. It’s bold and textured surfaces delineate mythological themes and figures, giving her work a warm, almost nostalgic feeling of home.
With the block print medium her love for line, texture, color and design are expressed using the brayer, brush and gouge. She also loves watercolor, inks, charcoal and pastel and include those in the repertoire of media that give her tremendous joy in using.
After receiving a BA in painting from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wiltse moved to Seattle to study at the School of Visual Concepts, where she eventually taught figure and basic drawing. During that time she began her career as a professional illustrator in the Seattle market, gradually branching out nationally. She has been represented by Morgan Gaynin Inc. in New York city since 1993.
