Anne’s Comment:
When churches were built over several centuries, Italian architects who designed and built the massive cathedrals had no hesitation about combining different patterns, styles, and surfaces as additional buildings were added to the original structures. The different surface designs, some marble, some stucco, were what drew my eye to this scene at the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi.
