BRUCE LAUNER - woodworker

Clinton artist Bruce Launer designs and builds finely crafted art furniture and one-of-a-kind music stands and cutting boards. His pieces often feature a juxtaposition of unfinished natural edges combined with exquisitely finished surfaces in hardwoods such as walnut, maple, paduk, oak and acacia.

“My intention is to erase the arbitrary lines created between art, design and craft," Launer said.
Nowhere is that more apparent than in the playful way he combines types of wood, live edges, knot holes and even rocks in his stylish furniture.

Launer was influenced at an early age by various artists in his family, who worked in a variety of styles and mediums, but it was woodworking that would steal his focus. After having assisted craftsmen who restored historic buildings in Santa Cruz, California, he acquired a job at a woodworking studio that created unique interiors for “themed” boutiques and retail businesses. Bruce Launer is a member of the Whidbey Island Woodworkers Guild and holds a bachelor of arts degree from Eastern Oregon State University.

Since moving to Whidbey Island he has been creating fine woodworking products, specializing in his unique furniture and music stands.
