Sonam Choephel & the Friendship Painting Organization

Sonam Choephel

Tibetan painter Sonam Choephel is the founder and principal teacher of the Friendship Painting Organization, a program at Tibetan Homes Foundation in Mussoorie, UP India for students who wish to pursue an artistic career. Graduates of the five year program go on to successful careers as artists, often traveling to monasteries to restore murals or paint traditional Tibetan iconography.

Sonam studied traditional Thangkha painting and mask making at the Namdoling Monastery in southern India, and went on to study for four years with renowned Indian artist Bishambar Dutt. He is a sought-after artist and teacher. Among his credentials are nine large paintings of Buddhist saints at Namgyal Monastery in Dharamsala, India, commissioned by H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama.

We offer a number of Sonam’s paintings as well as some of his students’ paintings.
The works are unframed and mounted on acid-free foam core in plastic sleeves.
100% of the proceeds go directly to Sonam in support of the Friendship Painting Organization.
