Artist’s Commentary
About a dozen years ago I returned to a spot on the property that I hadn’t visited since I buried Mrs. Q, an asian box turtle that looked rather like an elegantly iced cake in earth tones. It had always seemed like a special spot, which basked in the light of the setting sun. A toppled plum tree that has continued to grow in it’s supine pose wanders down the gentle slope, dropping roots and sending shoots. I suppose someday it’s march may be halted by arrival at the sea, I can’t think what else may stop it. We built a Tea House there, added a waterfall, and for many years have watched the sunset there from October to June what ever the weather. Big Boy’s been there, Big Boy’s been everywhere.
