This painting was inspired by a four day backpacking trip in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness of the North Cascades. This view is from Fisher Mountain looking down onto Lower and Upper Ptarmigan Lakes, with Terrace Mountain on the left, and to the south in the misty background Mount Daniels and Mount Hinman. I was struck by the tens of thousands of trees, backlit in the midday sun, and the contrast of the blueberry bushes, turned bright red from the season’s first frosts, with the deep blue of the cold lakes.
