Letting Go is about releasing someone you love to the next stage of their journey. For me, it was about preparing to release my daughter to college. The hand that is releasing the bird still has traces of the star shine left behind as the sparkly young bird flies away, but the releasing hand is also grounded by the calcified layers of life already lived as an older person. The vintage watch faces and worn wood elements throughout the piece speak to the passage of time, and the eggs and broken egg shells remind us that if we are lucky enough to hatch our dreams, we also must reckon with the loss that comes when we allow them to take flight into a life of their own.
Materials: Found wooden box; quail eggs, whole and broken; vintage watch faces; paint swatches; assorted papers; found wood with peeling paint; antique shell beads.
