When David Died is about a couple I know who were recently separated by death after 45 years of marriage. Both are writers and scholars and the husband who died wrote many love poems to his wife, reflected in the secret love notes tied up in scrolls in the piece. Her fish – her life force – is left dangling, while his is at rest in the “casket” of the wonderful old metal eyeglass case. Ultimately, they remain united – just in different realms now as she looks back on their many years of love.

Box: recycled toy box

Materials: vintage metal spectacles case; candy tin; two metal fish; “united” flight pin; printed and stitched vellum scrolls; glass square; ceramic miniature platter.
